Reporting: Round Texel Catamaran Race, 300 Catamaran Sailors Registered Already

Added by damonAdmin on Apr 22, 2004 - 10:35 AM

Den Burg, April 22nd 2004 – After the first two weeks of subscription, the 27th Zwitserleven Round Texel already counts three hundred participants. As of April 1st, sailors can register themselves for the world’s biggest catamaran race. On Saturday June 5th will start their battle against the elements. They will have to face the surf at ‘Paal 17’, the current, wind and waves during the long-distance of hundred kilometres. The ProAm-race on June 4th will offer press, sponsors and relationships a foretaste. But anticipatory pleasure can also be found in the promo area.

About six hundred catamarans are expected to appear at the starting line of the 27th Zwitserleven Round Texel. As soon as the helicopter gives a smoke signal, the coloured fleet leaves for the light house in the north and returns by the Waddensea to the finish at the North Sea. If the wind is sufficient, the first finishers need about 3,5 hours for rounding Texel. Tros Radio 3FM will broadcast live from the beach.

Round Texel Promo area

A certain area on the beach will be fitted up as promo area, where dealers can show their new boats and offer their services to competitors. Class organizations will have the opportunity to promote themselves, but also the sailing teams. It is the place to be for more information and for interesting news.

Round Texel ProAm race

On Friday afternoon June 4th, press, sponsors and relationships will have the opportunity to experience the true catamaran spirit by themselves. They will be invited to crew during a special ProAm race. Round Texel participants will be asked to collaborate in this initiative.

Round Texel Week

As of Wednesday June 2nd until Friday June 4th, participants can already explore the racing area during the Texel Dutch Open. This event consists of short races. Many sailors consider it as an exercise for the ‘biggest cat race’ on Saturday. In addition, the Royal Dutch Sailing Federation has officially recognized the event as an Open Dutch Championship. On Thursday afternoon, sailors can traditionally sail the ‘Horstocht’. During the Round Texel Week a social program offers relaxation on the Texel beach.

Besides Zwitersleven the event will be sponsored by Repeat Sales Promotions B.V., TNG Swiss watches, Komatsu, Holkema Group, Tros, Mondriaan Onderwijsgroep, SportLive.nl, Nissan, Teso and VVV Texel.
